AWWA Championships 2021

AWWA Championships 2021

The AWWA Championships took place at Box End Park from 28 Jun to 2 Jul 2021.  The event evolved this year, increasing participant numbers with only an Open category for competition, allowing the developing Corps Teams to showcase their riders.

In previous years the AWWA Champs has run both Novice and Open Categories to encourage new and experienced riders to participate in the sport.  With a shift in focus this year to heavily support Corps and grass roots training, the Champs offered an opportunity for the Corps to show off what they had achieved during the season, and they did not disappoint.

The Corps committees have been working hard to deliver grass roots training and competition camps within the COVID restrictions this season with the aim of giving new and experiences riders an opportunity to get out on the water.  This investment has seen the Army Champs develop and the competition for Corps Team Champion heat up as new riders enter the field.

The AWW Championship week saw 48 riders take to the water to battle for the podium in cable wakeboarding, boat wakeboarding and water-ski slalom.  Six Corps brought teams to the water and with individuals riders from Corps not yet represented also in attendance.  The AAC and RE put in excellent performances as the longest established Corps Teams, coming 1st and 3rd respectively, with the new-coming REME team getting in amongst it to take 2nd place.
